Fresh off his NOMBS 1 category win, Martin took off for the OMBC / Nue Series Mohican 100 MTB race in Laudenville, OH. This was a goal race for Marty and a hard choice, as it is so early in the season. We had an especially wet spring here in Ohio and faced training challenges, closed trails and generally poor attitudes as a result. Marty’s a hell of a soldier, though and we know he was working his lousy ass off because the entire team was watching his Garmin dot throughout race day and frantically texting “he’s ahead of time!” over and over again.
We asked him to send a short race report and this is what he had to say:
Saturday May 19th 2023 was my second attempt at the Mohican MTB 100. After a defeating time of 11 hours 45 minutes in 2022 I challenged my self to train harder and beat that time in 2023. I was excited about this years conditions because I favor cold and rain. It rained all day Friday and for the first hour or so of the race start Saturday morning. This years results were much better than the previous. I finished in the time of 9 hours and 9 minutes. Took almost 3 hours off of my previous time and had a much better experience overall. All aspects of the race improved. Sections I had to walk last year I easily rode, except that stupid rock garden through tree frog (so sketchy). Happy with the effort and look forward to trying to best the performance for next year.
You can check out Martin’s overall 119th out of 204 in Mens Open at bikesignup. Big ups to all our sponsors who help keeping this shit weird in 2023!
